39 Reasons Spring Break At Universal Studios Was Our Best Vacation To Date!

We’ve never taken a vacation like this. . . A week-long getaway with all four boys, an incredible theme park hotel, and multiple days at the three Universal Studios parks. Whew. We had high hopes, but also knew from previous vacations how family getaways can quickly turn sour. But guess what? It was phenomenal. I don’t know how to describe it all. So I’ve narrowed it down to 39 reasons this was our best vacation yet. Lazy Rivers–Because we all need more lazy rivers in our lives. Our hotel (Cabana Bay Beach Resort…

An Anniversary Getaway Surprise!

He had no idea where we were going. I’d just told him we were going away for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I suggested a few things to pack, but tried to keep it vague so he wouldn’t figure out where I was taking him. I have to say, the surprise element was a fun factor leading up to the weekend. He kept asking for hints, so I gave him a few to mull over. It had something to do with “us.” It was within driving distance. We’d never been there…

Turning Work Into Play!

I recently attended a 3-day conference in Orlando and decided to take the family along for a fun getaway. The boys’ Disney passes had blackout dates during the time we’d be there, so I was worried there wouldn’t be enough at the hotel to keep all my boys occupied ALL day. Silly girl… Jeff and the boys had a blast! I enjoyed the conference, but also wished I was in the pictures Jeff would send me each day. They were splashing in the pools (yes, plural), playing yard games, riding down water slides…

Roaring Through Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo

“I wish I could live here.” This was my 10-year-old’s statement as we walked through the final exhibit before heading to the buses. I think we can say this field trip was pretty high on his favorites list! Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is already an amazing place, from the gorgeous animals and fun rides to the yummy food and awesome gift shops, but then you add their Dinos Alive exhibit, and you have some VERY happy fifth graders! My group of kiddos actually walked through Dinos Alive twice because they loved it…

Something to Smile About…

You know when someone you love is in a sad, heart-wrenching place and you just want to fast forward life to get them to happiness? That’s how I felt about my little sister three years ago. She was going through a divorce and was so upset, and scared, and anxious about so many things. Every time we spoke, her voice was soft and sad, and I knew she was struggling to talk or think about anything else. We prayed and prayed for her to get through that crazy, difficult time and find something to make her smile again…

A Kennedy Space Center Adventure (With Sixth Graders!)

When you become a parent, you get to enter school field trips in your travel log. They count! Many times, they are destinations you might not plan to visit on your own, and it’s definitely a whole new experience traveling with and caring for several children your child’s age. One of the coolest trips I’ve gone on was with my oldest son to Kennedy Space Center in Titusville, Florida. The day started early, but we needed every minute of time we had there to explore the complex. We arrived at the school at 6:45 a…
